What is Sandblasting?

Sandblasting is the use of compressed air to propel abrasive media at a surface for cleaning or removing rust, corrosion, or old coatings.

Why Sandblasting?

A coating, such as Powdercoat or Paint, is only as good as the preparation of the material to be coated. Sandblasting will remove rust, corrosion, contaminants, or old paint to allow proper adhesion of the coating being applied. Also, sandblasting will add a texture to the surface of the metal giving the coating something to “hang on to.”

At American Metal Finishers we recommend sandblasting of all materials to be coated. Matching the abrasive media to the material is the key. We offer sandblasting using Glass Beads for smaller parts or thinner metal to Aluminum Oxide for tougher jobs and deeper cleaning. We also use Coal Slag in varying grit size for most general blasting.

Our Blast Room is large enough to tackle almost any job and we are able to handle parts up to 7000 lbs. We also utilize blast cabinets for smaller work.
